For the opening ceremony of the Baku 2015 European Games, we were commissioned to engineer a custom system to position the iconic flame towers as they emerged from the Maiden Tower. These dynamic stage elements played a central symbolic role in the storytelling of the ceremony.
Space within the Maiden Tower was extremely limited, requiring the flame towers to be mounted on custom-built, wheeled carts with integrated tilt mechanisms. These allowed the towers to be stored compactly, then moved and raised smoothly into final position during the live performance. Our team developed a precise motion control system to manage this complex transition within tight spatial and timing constraints.
The flame towers deployed with seamless precision, enhancing a key visual moment of the ceremony. Thanks to the compact, mobile design and controlled motion, the transformation appeared effortless, delivering both technical reliability and theatrical impact on a global stage.
