For Tomorrowland 2024, we were commissioned to design and engineer a spectacular central stage element: a giant mechanical flower with three layers and six petals per layer. This structure forms a key visual highlight of the main stage, opening and closing with dynamic elegance.
The flower spans 17 meters in diameter and is suspended 25 meters above ground, making structural integrity and motion control critical. It had to withstand wind speeds of up to 75 km/h and manage extreme torque forces on each petal within minimal available space. Our team engineered a lightweight yet robust system, integrating custom mechanics and smart control electronics. The design also ensures the entire structure, despite weighing 9 tons, can be preassembled and efficiently mounted on-site.
The result is a stage centerpiece that combines precision and strength. Seamlessly blending art and engineering, the flower captivated audiences with its dynamic motion and flawless integration into the Tomorrowland experience.
